Conference "Dismantling of barrieres"

In June 2016 the conference "Dismantling of barrieres" was organized to encourage representatives of municipalities and other organisations – public or not – to reduce restrictions especially for people with disabilities. The conference provided professional contributions on legislation as well as useful examples and lessons learned. It illustrated the challenges faced by people with disabilities and showed examples how barriers can be eliminated or reduced. Subject specialists and practitioners presented different aspects of "Accessibility".

Accessibility is indispensable for people with disabilities and it is a legal requirement to ensure participation in social life. Furthermore accessibility is necessary for various sections of society. Families with little children, people affected by a disease or an accident, elder persons with restricted mobility and people with heavy luggage are only some examples. Last not least accessibility provides more comfort for everyone. Proof supplies e.g. public traffic where 90 percent of the people use escalators or lifts – it is simply more comfortable. The conference showed: With a little common sense and some understanding for the requirements of accessibility, it is not difficult to find ways to envolve all people in social life. Finally this enriches life quality in the region Weinviertel (Lower Austria).

This project is connected to the project Image Campaign "Think socially", which also aims on awareness raising for accessibility.
