Artistic interim use Kirchstetten
The old elementary school in Kirchstetten (market town of Neudorf im Weinviertel) has stood empty for many years. As part of the 2026 Quarter Festival, the vacant space will be temporarily used artistically to develop new ideas for its use and creatively revitalize the space. Under the title "Tethys – Streams of Consciousness," three artists explore the element of water in various media – from painting and spatial drawing to readings and participatory workshops. The starting point is the primordial sea Tethys, whose traces are still visible in the Weinviertel today. The exhibition invites visitors to actively participate: Thoughts and memories on the subject of water, as well as visions of the future for the old elementary school, will be collected, artistically processed as "Streams of Consciousness," and made visible in the exhibition space. Accompanying readings and workshops for children, young people, and adults will take place, working with fossils, collages, texts, and floating objects. The results will be incorporated into a public project wall and encourage collaborative reflection on the future use of the building. The project combines artistic inspiration with local participation and sustainable idea generation for the revitalization of vacant properties.
