Day trip March-Thaya-Auen
The March–Thaya wetlands are stepping into the spotlight as a day-trip destination. The municipalities of Rabensburg, Hohenau an der March, Ringelsdorf-Niederabsdorf, Drösing, Jedenspeigen, Dürnkrut, and Angern an der March are jointly creating an easy-to-plan program for day excursions. At its heart is a fresh promotional presence—brochure and website—that showcases nature, culture, and cuisine and links them with bookable offers.
What does that look like in practice? A convenient rail journey with arrival in Drösing. From there, head to the sand dunes, continue to the bee nature trail and the pollard willows. Enjoy a regional lunch. Then walk on to Hohenau to visit the bird-ringing station, explore the March–Thaya Center, and wind down at a wine tavern on the Kellerberg. Return sustainably on the Northern Railway. Clearly described routes like these provide orientation, remove planning hurdles, and spark curiosity.
As a pilot, the project makes our natural gem tangible as a whole for the first time. Visitors learn more about the unique floodplain landscape and its cultural sites; local businesses and municipalities see higher day-to-day footfall. In this way, the Weinviertel becomes more VALUABLE and MORE LIVABLE: value creation stays local, distances are short, experiences are authentic. Over the long term, the project strengthens gentle, sustainable tourism, connects existing offers, and steadily raises quality.
