The project “Zayawiesen Nature Experience Trail” aims to make a unique natural area on the outskirts of the city of Mistelbach accessible and engaging for both residents and visitors. Along a circular trail of approximately five kilometers following the Zaya River, the Taschlbach and the Zayawiesen wetlands, several experience stations will be created to present nature, landscape history and water management in an accessible and engaging way. The trail connects existing walking and cycling paths and leads visitors through different landscape areas – from the wet meadows of the protected natural monument Zayawiesen to the retention areas at the confluence of the Zaya and Taschlbach. The thematic stations present key topics such as wet meadows and biodiversity, habitats along riverbanks, the historical use of the Zayawiesen and the development of the Zaya river landscape. A special focus is placed on current water management measures, including the retention basin and the widening of the Taschlbach, which contribute significantly to flood protection and ecological restoration. Interactive elements, viewpoints, resting areas and playful educational features – especially for children – invite visitors to actively explore the natural environment. The experience trail combines nature interpretation, recreation and environmental education while strengthening awareness of the importance of water, biodiversity and river restoration in the region.
