1regional Future WORKSHOP

June 11, 2025 | AWS Solutions Hub Asparn an der Zaya

From lighthouse keeper to moralist: When they hear the word “Weinviertel,” many people still think of a “rural, old-fashioned life” with “fewer opportunities.” This is exactly where the FUTURE WORKSHOP of the LEADER Region Weinviertel Ost comes in. The aim is to strengthen the “eastern Weinviertel” location, retain young people, and make the region more attractive to skilled workers, families, and entrepreneurs. In the workshop, participants worked at four interactive stations (“lighthouse keeper,” “travel companion,” “moralist,” and “people person”) and exchanged different perspectives in short rounds. Among other things, they discussed what the Weinviertel stands for today and in the future, what values shape the region, and how companies can act as catalysts.

FIRST STOP - LIGHTHOUSE KEEPERS

This stop was all about strong, visible flagships for the region – so-called lighthouse projects. One thing is clear: the Weinviertel has a lot to offer. But in order to make the special companies, offers, and unique selling points visible beyond the region, stronger images and compelling stories are needed. The response was huge – new “lighthouses” were mentioned in every discussion group: from well-known companies such as Spusu to specialized institutions such as the Pirawarth Clinic, an important center of excellence for neurological rehabilitation.

SECOND STATION - MORAL APOSTLE

This station focused on the question of which values shape coexistence and development in the Weinviertel region. Which attributes are associated with the region today – and which should be associated with it in the future? There was much discussion and intense deliberation, as the challenge was to agree on two central values per category. The most important suggestions were marked with a “like” by the participants. The characteristics “creative,” “design-oriented,” and “solution-oriented” were mentioned particularly frequently – they currently represent the Weinviertel region most strongly.

THIRD STOP - TRAVEL GUIDE

Here, everything revolved around the so-called “candidate journey” – that is, the path that potential new residents, skilled workers, or returnees take when they decide to move to the Weinviertel region. From the first impression to the search for information to the actual arrival, the individual steps of this “journey” were examined closely. The aim was to gain a better understanding of how the Weinviertel region can be made more visible as an attractive place to live – and where clear signals and good offers are needed to attract people to the region and keep them there in the long term.

FOURTH STATION - UNDERSTANDING PEOPLE

This station was dedicated to finding, inspiring, and retaining talent in the Weinviertel region. The region's appeal was highlighted, with its central location, nature, and culture. Specific ideas include a digital platform for easily searching for jobs, apartments, and leisure activities; starter apartments for young newcomers; personal welcome offers such as buddy systems and newcomer representatives in communities; and integration measures such as neighborhood festivals and intergenerational living. The goal is to retain talent in the region in the long term and improve the quality of life.
