"Inner City Idea" – City Center Lab Weinviertel
In the town centres of Mistelbach, Wolkersdorf and Poysdorf, many ground-floor premises are standing empty – reducing footfall, quality of stay and local value creation. At the same time, two barriers are at play: property owners shy away from risk, effort and unclear lease terms, while founders get stuck due to fixed costs, uncertainty, low visibility and limited opportunities to test their ideas. This is exactly where the project comes in: vacancy becomes a testing ground for new concepts – and the town centre an attractive, visible place to start a business.
Through a structured, repeatable process, suitable premises are opened up for temporary use and founders are supported in a targeted way – from a clear call for applications through bootcamp and matching to pitch events held directly in vacant spaces. A buddy and coaching system ensures that promising ideas turn into viable implementations and that the first months of operation are not left to chance. The aim is to stabilise successful uses over time, actively involve existing local businesses, and position the town centres as experimentation-friendly locations.
