Genuss-Keller: Rest area for hikers and cyclists in the Poysdorfer Kellergstetten
Cycling and hiking tourism is growing steadily in the Weinviertel – especially in Poysdorf. At the same time, there is often a lack of suitable rest stops offering easy access to drinks, small snacks, and sanitary facilities. In addition, the region's unique cultural asset – the Kellergasse – is usually only visible from the outside and rarely accessible to visitors.
This is exactly where the Hauser family’s project comes in. In Poysdorf’s "Gstetten" Kellergasse, they have created a modern rest stop with a self-service station – right inside a traditional Weinviertel wine cellar (Presshaus). At the heart of the concept are two vending machines: one for tasting local wines by the glass, the other offering grape juice, bottled wine, water, and regional snacks. The offer is completed by a small kitchenette, a water fountain, and comfortable seating both inside and outside – including a shaded area beneath a tree.
Renovation work included the restoration of the floor, the cellar stairs, and the Presshaus and cellar doors. The rest stop is clearly recognizable thanks to uniform Weinviertel branding and is open daily from at least 8 am to 9 pm all year round. This innovative stopover closes a gap in the region’s tourism infrastructure – combining local flavors, cultural heritage, and relaxation in a unique way.
