Did you know that the Weinviertel region is Austria's largest apricot-growing area? Or that the cellar lanes in the Weinviertel region are unique in the world and that “In d'Grean gehn” has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site? As part of the “Regionsbewusstsein Weinviertel” (Weinviertel Regional Awareness) project, lots of interesting facts are presented in short stories and brought to life for the population. This knowledge can be found on the website mein.weinviertel.at .
We are proud to be Weinviertler:innen – and we want to show it! Every year on Weinviertel Day, the Weinviertel flags are raised in all 122 Weinviertel communities! This is not least to raise awareness among the local population, and visitors to a community or tourist destination will also notice this visible sign.
The LEADER Region Weinviertel Ost wants to preserve and spread knowledge about the Weinviertel region. Together with Weinviertel Tourismus GmbH and Dorf- & Stadterneuerung GmbH, the training program “Echt Weinviertel” was created. In 7 modules, you will learn basic knowledge about the Weinviertel region's traditions, wine, culture, pantry, cellar lanes, and cultural landscape. The course concludes with an excursion to two special destinations. The aim is for participants to apply their knowledge in everyday life as “genuine Weinviertel residents” and become ambassadors for the region.
We love the Weinviertel region and we show it! That's why we have created various promotional items – from bodysuits for the youngest Weinviertel residents, stickers, deck chairs, Weinviertel flags for the communities, sunglasses, and even a murder mystery dinner game set from the Weinviertel region. „Das Geheimnis um den verschwundenen Kellerschlüssel“ teaches players about the Weinviertel region and its customs as they solve a murder case.
By imparting knowledge about the region, the LEADER regions want to strengthen identification with the Weinviertel—especially among children. Special materials have been prepared for them – for school and home. These include a Weinviertel map for the classroom, children's videos with the “Weinviertel Vifzack,” a children's storybook, a hidden object poster, and a Pixi book featuring “Betty Bernstein.” A painting competition was also held in 2024. Young people are also being inspired to take an interest in the Weinviertel region through social media, image articles, and essay and film competitions.
