Our Weinviertel …
… we are committed to regional identity!
MY Weinviertel
Wein·vier·tel / Wein-fier-tel / Substantiv, neutrum [das]: Region in northeastern Lower Austria, known for its rolling hills, idyllic cellar lanes, traditional viticulture, and a vibrant cultural landscape. The Weinviertel is not only Austria's largest wine-growing region, but also a region full of stories, warmth, and a lively sense of community. It stretches across the districts of Gänserndorf, Mistelbach, Hollabrunn, and Korneuburg, bordering the Czech Republic, Slovakia, the Waldviertel, the Mostviertel, and Vienna. The Weinviertel lies at the heart of Europe.
The customs and regional identity of the Weinviertel must be preserved. For this reason, the “Regionsbewusstsein Weinviertel” (Weinviertel Regional Awareness) project was launched in collaboration with the four LEADER regions of Weinviertel Ost, Weinviertel-Manhartsberg, Weinviertel-Donauraum, and Marchfeld, as well as Weinviertel Tourismus. We have set ourselves the goal of improving the quality of life in the Weinviertel and raising awareness among the people of the Weinviertel for “THEIR” region. Many measures that have emerged from joint ideas have already been implemented: events and festivals, marketing articles, and a dedicated Weinviertel Day.

PROUD WEINVIERTLER:INNEN
The “Weinviertel Regional Awareness” project was launched to make our home region—the Weinviertel—with its diverse customs, landscape, and unique cellar lanes more interesting for residents. As part of the project, various materials were created to further strengthen regional identity.

TOPOTHEK - MEMORIES FROM THE PAST
A wealth of historical knowledge often lies hidden in the form of old photos in drawers and cupboards in private households. In order to preserve these for posterity and make them freely accessible to all citizens, over 100,000 images from more than 200 topothecarians in the communities of the eastern Weinviertel region were collected and digitally recorded as part of the Topothek project. Like in an archive, these photos are available on the Topothek platform and contribute to preserving the history and identity of our region.
MY WEINVIERTEL - kultur in der flur
Our small monuments and wayside shrines in the Weinviertel region are an almost self-evident part of our landscape and part of our regional identity. Each wayside shrine has its own history: erected in memory of a personal fate, as a symbol of faith and hope, or as a signpost. The stories behind these small monuments and the knowledge they represent are preserved in digital form in the field monument database.
